ico-D Chengdu Exchange

This was a project facilitating 10 Ravensbourne students to complete a design project in collaboration with 10 students of Chengdu Institute of Technology, in partnership with ico-D (the international council of design). As well as a project exploring different methods of design education in the two regions, it was a pilot for a new kind of place based experiential learning.

Based in Chengdu, the students worked in groups of four with a translator on a project for a local manufacturer, Maryya. The aim of the project was to design and prototype a range of products with a consistent design language, developing a brand and assisting the company move from OEM to OBM. As well as working in the studio of CDUT, students carried out primary research and visits were made to a range of manufacturing facilities.
